La migración parece bien en caminada. Los números de capturas suben y la semana pasada con 523 aves deberia ser rebasado esta semana. Con solamente 4 dias ya tenemos 90% del total de la semana pasada. 
Los bolseros castaños son los mas comunes y despues los chipes amarillos.

The migration is well advance now. The number of birds captured increase, and the result of the last week with 523 birds should be forgotten. With only four days we get 90% of the last week total capture. We have still 3 days of banding. The Orchard Oriole are the communest and followed by Yellow Warbler.

Hoy 65 bolseros castaños capturados. Vamos a tratar de hacer mejor mañana antes de que nos toque la tormenta Harley.
Vimos nuestro primer martin-pescador norteño (Megaceryle alcyon) y paso un joven de playero de Baird (Calidris bairdii).

Today we saw our first belted Kingfisher and a young Baird Sandpiper was in stop over.

Durante que anillamos algunos mosquitos disfrutan de que tenemos las manos ocupadas con las aves para alimentarse...

During the banding, some mosquitos use the opportunity that we have full hand of birds to feed.

Cerca de las redes, no para de observarnos este búho bien tranquilo en la sombra de las ramas de un saulce.

Close to the nets, a Striped Owl stay tune to our activity. It stays quiet in the shade of the Willow tree.

 

Hoy capturamos nuestro primer vireo de ojo rojo, un chipe patulillo (Oporornis formosus) y un rascon cuello gris y nada mas 43 aves.
Today we captured our first Red-eyed Vireo and Kentucky Warbler  and a Grey-necked Wood Rail but  only 43 birds.

despues de una noche tranquila, con viento ligero de Norte, las redes se abrieron y de imediato se llenaron. Casi puro Bolsero castaños.. Capturamos hoy 116 de estos, y algunas cositas mas, pero mucho, mucho Bolseros castaños. Muchos jovenes y los adtultos empiezan a mudar.
Veremos mañana.

After a quiet night, with slight north wind, we open the nets and immediatly they get full. Almost only Orchard Oriole. Today we captured 116 Orchard Orioles and few other species, but lot of Orchard Orioles. Lot of young birds, and the adults starts to molt. 

We will see what's up tomorrow...

despues de una noche marcada con tormentas electricas y violentas lluvias, amanecemos los pies en el agua, las redes mojaradas y en espera de las pocas aves que decidieron migrar esta noche.
Finalmente, no fue tan mal, con 51 capturas y nuestra primer Prothonotaria citrea para el sitio.

After a night with electric storms and very strong rains, we wake up the feet in the water, the mistnet dead wet and waiting for the few crazzy birds migrating below these conditions. Finally, It wasn't that bad with 51 birds and our first ever Protonotary Warbler.

11,000 aves en 8 meses / 11000 birds in 8 months

Hoy rebasamos las 11,000 capturas desde Oct 2010. Tuvimos un lapso de calma en junio y julio, pero ahora la migración regresa con fuerza. Hoy 64 bolseros castaños en nuestras redes, el primer chipe arroyero del año y los dos primeros chipes amarillos de la temporada.

Today we get over 11,000 birds captured since Oct 2010. During June and July, It was fairly low capture rate, but now the migration is back. Today we captured 64 Orchard Oriole, the first Louisiana Waterthrush and the two first Yellow Warbler of the season.

en el transcurso de nuestro trabajo, capturamos este jovén Vireo.. fue una sorpresa, y con cuidado nos aventuramos a identificarlo. Consultamos en diferentes lugares y si este Vireo es un Vireo pallens, el primer registro con evidencia para el Estado de Veracruz.

During our banding work, we captured this young Vireo. a nice surprise, and before say anything we check around to confirm id. This Vireo is a Vireo pallens (Mangrove vireo), the first confirm for Veracruz State.
